For our very first episode<\/a> of Talkin’ Tropics,\u00a0Dr. Chris Kiahtipes<\/strong>, Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Anthropology with the Institute\u00a0for the Advanced Study of Culture and Environment, University of South Florida joins Dr. Yoshi Maezumi<\/strong> and Dr. Robert Patalano<\/strong> to discuss his research in Africa’s Congo Basin and the Great Basin region of North America.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Chris is an environmental archaeologist who specializes in the recovery and analysis of plant microfossils, mainly pollen. His\u00a0research combines\u00a0archaeological and palaeoecological methods to document the\u00a0long-term influence of human societies on global ecosystems, and\u00a0often includes a multi-proxy toolkit focusing on pollen analyses and past\u00a0fire ecology for the reconstruction of human-environment interactions.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Chris received his PhD from Department of Anthropology, Southern Methodist University in 2016,\u00a0completed his first postdoc at the Institute for Prehistory and Early History, Research Center\u00a0Africa, at the University of Cologne, Germany, and is currently a postdoc at the University of\u00a0Florida.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
